Dallas Wine Scene

I spent the second weekend of December in Dallas visiting my best friend. Moni was up for adventure. On Thursday night when I arrived, we stopped at two wine bars to start the weekend off with a bang.

First stop, Bodega Wine Bar in Dallas. It is a very cute place with a great variety of wine. We decided to share two different flights that meant we tried 8 wines between the two of us. We started with a Cabernet Flight, it has Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley, Dunham Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Vineyard 29 Cru and Pride Cabernet Sauvignon. Of this flight, our favorite was the Pride Cabernet. Then we moved on to the Lakewood Favorites flight, this contained the Belle Glos Pinot Noir, The Prisoner blend, Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon and Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The Caymus and Austin Hope tied as our favorites from this flight. They have a small menu of cheese, sausage and small plates.

I recommend visiting Bodega if you get to Dallas, the small, cozy atmosphere was relaxed and the bartender knows his wine.

Second stop, Veritas Wine Bar in Dallas. This is a small wine bar that has potential but misses the mark for me. The options by the glass were limited, they sell mostly bottles and have a variety of international and US wines. We decided to share 4 half pours, and to be honest we didn’t like any of them. We had the Jam Cabernet Sauvignon, a French Grenache, a Rhone Syrah and Hunt & Harvest Cabernet Sauvignon.

I’d give Veritas another try to see how often they change up the menu options by the glass. It definitely felt more like a “date night” kind of place than a girls night out feel.

On Friday, Moni planned a lunch downtown at Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille for their Friday lunch. Moni requested a table in the Cellar Room, this place is very cool. They have barrel heads on the wall from some of my favorite Napa Valley Wineries. Perry’s is know for it’s four finger pork chop lunch. We shared the pork shop and had asparagus as our side. We ordered a bottle of Groth Sauvignon Blanc to go with our lunch, it’s one of my favorites. It holds a special place in my heart, my friend, Brienne originally recommended it. She unfortunately passed away from Colon Cancer, so when I have wines she loved it makes me smile.

The food, wine, atmosphere and company made Perry’s my most memorable moment in Dallas, well that and our late night 80’s dance party, but I digress. Visit Perry’s in Dallas and you will not be disappointed, I loved it.
